FILM GREEN: RICE’S ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
prizes provided by Center for the Study of Environment and Society at Rice
In conjunction with Focus the Nation on January 31, Rice is having its first
Environmental Film Festival. We invite students and community members to
submit their short subjects (< 20 min) in any genre/style related to any topic
surrounding environmental issues.
Originality and creativity is key – we’re not just looking for mini versions of
An Inconvenient Truth! We’re looking for post-apocalyptic science fiction,
humorous explanations of climate science, video love letters to Mother Nature,
documentaries about people or events making a difference in a community, and
all things in between.
Remember…
Your movie doesn’t have to have the words “global warming” or “climate change”
in it.
Your movie doesn’t have to be about an endangered animal.
Your movie doesn’t have to be pessimistic, optimistic, nihilistic, or political.
YOUR MOVIE CAN BE ABOUT ANYTHING AT ALL.
Your movie SHOULD be a way for you to express your thoughts and/or feelings
about nature, the environment, the ongoing discussions about conservation and
climate change, and how humans fit into the Big Picture of the Earth.
The organizers of the festival would be pleased to assist anyone with technical
issues, training, or acquiring manpower to make his or her movie. The Digital
Media Center at Rice (in Herring Hall, x3635) has all the gear one would ever
need to make a great movie, from cameras to editing systems, with training also
available.
SUBMISSIONS (ON MINI DV OR DVD) NEED TO BE MADE BY JANUARY 28. THE TIME AND
PLACE OF THE FESTIVAL ON JAN 31 IS TBD. FOR APPLICATION AND MORE INFORMATION,
CONTACT RAGSDALE@RICE.EDU.
