The Digital Media Center (DMC), part of the Fondren Library, provides Rice students, faculty, and staff access to equipment, software, and expertise for creating or using digital media.

Services

At the DMC, you may:

  • • Scan slides, film, images (up to 11.4" x 17"), and documents
  • • Digitize and edit video
  • • Digitize and edit audio
  • • Record narration or make a podcast in our sound editing booth
  • • Check out equipment for free, including a digital camera, digital camcorder, audio recorder, microphone, or tripod. Please note that you must supply your own recording media (e.g. miniDV tape, DVD, etc).
  • • Create your own DVD
  • • Duplicate DVDs or CDs (up to 25 copies at a time)
  • • Create animations
  • • Create web pages
  • • Create or edit graphics
  • • Receive informal, hands-on training. (Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 713-348-3635, emailing dmc-info@rice.edu, or filling out our online form.)
    • Use one of the DMC's multimedia CD-ROMs, electronic texts, or linguistic corpora.

The DMC also offers a pleasant environment for studying and working on group projects. Our second floor features lots of windows, lounge seating, a collaboration area with a 50 inch plasma display, and study tables; wireless networking is available throughout the facility.
