More information on printing at Fondren Library.

More information on printing at the Digital Media Center.

1)Where can I use email/type my paper?

The first floor of Fondren Library is the largest "computer lab" on the Rice campus. You'll find PC and Macintosh computers with ethernet connections and many different software applications.

Check online, for more information about computing at Rice.

2)Does the library have a scanner I can use? What about equipment for digitizing audio or video?

The Digital Media Center (DMC), is located in Herring Hall. In addition, the DMC provides access to audio and video editing equipment, as well as digital cameras and camcorders available for check out to qualified Rice faculty, staff, and students. The Center also supports multimedia software not available elsewhere on campus and offers assistance with electronic resources. The resources in the Center are free and open to the public.

There is also a scanner in the Reference area on the first floor that may be used by Rice students, faculty, and staff.

3)Do you provide computer access for library visitors?

Fondren Library offers Internet access to the public for library research; all of the online resources that are otherwise unavailable for public off-campus use are freely available to anyone inside the library.

Public research terminals are located directly around the Reference Desk on the first floor of the library. Computers for online catalog searching are also available on each floor.  Public research computers do not provide access to Microsoft Office applications (word-processing, spreadsheets, etc.).

For more information about Fondren Library's computer policies, please check the signs posted in the Reference Area.
