Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Scientific and Technical Information Network (STINET) -- Bibliographic information for unclassified technical information. Provides access to the Air University Library Index to Military Periodicals, Staff College Automated Military Periodical Index, DoD Index to Specifications and Standards, and Research and Development Descriptive Summaries. Includes citations and many electronic full-text articles.

GenBank -- NIH genetic sequence database

Geologic Hazards -- U.S.G.S. site links to information about geologic hazards such as landslides and earthquakes.

INIS: International Nuclear Information Systemr i c e o n l y | includes Full Text
No account or password necessary. -- INIS is the leading information source for scientific and technical literature published worldwide on the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology. Currently contains over 2.8 million references with English abstracts from 1970 to the present.

ITIS: Integrated Taxonomic Information System -- Online list of biological names (focusing on North America) being developed by U.S., Canadian, and Mexican agencies and other organizations.

NASA Scientific and Technical Information Program -- Access to current and historical information about aerospace, aeronautics and related topics.

National Center for Biotechnology Information -- Search databases including GenBank, RefSeq, TPA, UniProt, and PubMed Central.  Includes single search access to multiple biotechnology databases.

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

National Invasive Species Information Center (NISIC) -- Provides invasive species information from local, state, national, and international sources.

National Science Foundation's Publications -- Database of NSF publications that can be browsed or searched by keyword or document number.

National Technical Information Service (NTIS) on proxy -- Coverage includes abstracts of U.S. Government Agencies' technical publications from 1964-present. Accessible to the Rice community or at the Library only.

NTIS.Gov - Internet database with the ability to search an expanded collection of over three million products from 1964 to the present. Search results include a brief product description to facilitate online ordering of a report. Rice community members or patrons in the library can check the subscription-based National Technical Information Service database above to see if full text is available online before ordering a report.

PLANTS National Database -- Includes standardized plant names, symbols and other plant attribute information.

PrePRINT Network--Searchable gateway to preprint that deal with scientific and technical disciplines of concern to DOE including physics, materials, and chemistry, as well as portions of biology, environmental sciences and nuclear medicine.

PubSCIENCE -- Discontinued Nov. 4, 2002. Scientific and technical information is available at www.osti.gov. Specific links are available for journal literature at www.osti.gov/journal_sources.html.

Science and Engineering Indicators -- NSF report of of key trends in science and engineering research and education.

Science Tracer Bullets Online -- Library of Congress bibliographic guides to locating published materials on particular subject in the field of science and technology about which they have only a general knowledge. Fondren also has paper copies in the Government Publications stacks at LC 33.10.

Science.gov -- Authoritative science information from U.S. government agencies. Includes research and development results .

Scitopia.org -- Free federated search portal containing the electronic libraries of thirteen leading science and technology societies. Includes 150 years of peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings. Offers full-text articles searchable by article title or author name. Researchers at institutions with subscriptions to the content are automatically authenticated and can access the content directly. Also offers a pay-per-view option for researchers at institutions who do not subscribe to the content. Patent researchers can use a keyword search to locate patents on Esp@cenet, the Japan Patent Office, and the USPTO.

USGS Open-File Reports -- Selected open-file reports from 1970 to present.
