Facts & Overview about Fondren Library Collections
The Fondren Library subscribes to approximately 66,000 current journals (print and electronic) and houses over 2,314,000 print volumes and 2,900,000 units of microform. The collections include audiovisuals, music recordings, scores and other special formats. An increasing amount of library resources are provided online.
Rare books, manuscripts, and university archives are in the Woodson Research Center.
The library is a selective depository for U.S. and Texas government publications and a depository for U.S. patents and trademarks. Government information and assistance using government information is available in the Kelley Center for Government Information and Microforms.
Computer-based textual information, and assistance for Rice faculty and students wishing to incorporate these resources into research, study and teaching, or to publish electronically are available through the Digital Media Center.
Data resources, print and digital maps, geographic information system (GIS) software and supporting hardware are provided through the GIS/Data Center.
Other Library Collections
The Business Information Center (BIC), a division of the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management, offers an extensive business research collection. While administratively distinct, the BIC and Fondren collections are developed in tandem, and the BIC collections are recorded in Fondren Library's online catalog.
Other Area Libraries
Fondren Library is a member of the Houston Area Research Library Consortium (HARLiC). These libraries provide services to each other and to each other's primary service communities.
Other notable HARLiC members include: Houston Public Library, University of Houston, and Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center (HAM-TMC) Library.
