The mission of the Fondren Library of Rice University is to support the highest aspirations of the University in the areas of research, teaching, and service, through innovative research and information services, access to scholarly resources, collaborative alliances, and provision and shared use of physical and virtual spaces.

What We Do

Working with staff, develop and monitor a forward-looking strategic plan for the library.

Provide necessary administrative support for managing the daily operations of the Fondren Library.

Help set customer service standards for each department.

Manage the budget and funds of the Fondren Library.

Provide administrative support for hiring and terminating personnel and student workers.

Provide administrative support for purchasing equipment and supplies.

Our Customer Service Standards

1. · Provide courteous, responsive, respectful, and knowledgeable service.
2. · Provide the fullest possible service at all times, within the constraints of available resources.
3. · Provide materials and information resources appropriate to your needs.
4. · Publicize in various ways our range of services, library regulations and hours, and keep you informed of any changes to these.
5. · Provide you with the means to submit comments and suggestions and undertake regular surveys of your opinions.
6. · Train the library staff to ensure that our customer service is ongoing and is of the highest quality.
7. · Provide the same quality of service to all regardless of age, race, sex, nationality, educational background, physical limitations, or any other criteria, (Please note that some specific services are available only to the Rice community.)
